Precedent produces hearty new iPhone app for British Heart Foundation

We worked with the British Heart Foundation (BHF) to create an iPhone app to help promote their 'Healthy Heart Recipes'. The app is an evolution of the online recipe finder, also designed by Precedent, which is part of the Heart Matters toolkit on BHF's main website.

Users can search through over 130 recipes and store favourites, build a shopping list, rate recipes and email them to a friend. Nutritional information is provided for each meal and users can also search according to their specific heart health needs. Core design features include an interactive carousel, showcasing 20 of BHF's favourite recipes and an "inspire me" function.

One of the many benefits of the new application is that it links in with content already published on the BHF website, thus opening up its content to a whole new user group. BHF's audience segmentation for the app suggested strong interest from sports enthusiasts, so we included transition screens between areas promoting fundraising events.

Simon Braun, Lead Designer on the project said, "The idea for the app came out of work the team here at Precedent had already completed for the British Heart Foundation on a microsite for healthy eating. We felt that the information it contained was ideal to be reconfigured for a mobile interface. To do this effectively, we needed to consistently carry the brand identity throughout, as well as incorporate great functionality within the design."

Laila Takeh, Digital Manager at the BHF says: "We're excited to be able to offer people our first ever app...The app joins a growing BHF multimedia portfolio, with digital platforms proving to be an increasingly effective way to communicate with our audiences."
