Getting creative with UCA

As the University for the Creative Arts (UCA), it is understandable that their team wanted a hi-spec website bursting with intelligent design and personality.

Initially, we were commissioned to research just what potential students needed and wanted from the site. We engaged with students to find out what information was valuable to them, which would not only satisfy current students and staff, but would also help encourage new students to apply.

The university knew it needed a well designed site that aptly showcased its creativity and personality from the core. They wanted the site to be easy to navigate and uncomplicated, as well as make information clear and accessible. They wanted to showcase the quality and diversity of work that UCA students create throughout the site, without jeopardising the integrity of the site's content and information, and so the Media Wall was born.

Media Wall

As our research highlighted, the opportunity to explore student work relevant to aparticular course was one not to be missed on the site. By making it a feature in its own right, it not only exposes the students' work but also demonstrates the university's desire to be creative and forward thinking with its ownpresentation online.

As well as creating the Media Wall we also designed the pages of the site throughout, making sure the navigation remained uncompromised by the overall style and feel. To make sure all our designs were perfectly replicated online, we built the core site template for them to integrate into their systems and CMS, ensuring that they had the right infrastructure and technical capabilities to support their new look.

We feel the final design concept, integrated Media Wall and considered content adequately represent the creative nature of the university.

Darren Amer, senior consultant on the project at Precedent, said: "We greatly enjoyed working with such a forward thinking and pragmatic team at UCA on this project. They were driven to deliver the vision which required a delicate mix of usability features and creative flair. We hope to work with them again in the future."
